Etymology[edit]

According to J̌ahukyan, from *քարտակ (*kʻartak) +‎ -ատ- (-at-), from Middle Persian kltk' (kardag, division, section, portion), from [script needed] (kart-, to cut). The word is thus parallel to կտրատեմ (ktratem).
