Etymology
The original spelling is աւձիք (awjikʻ), of uncertain origin, + -ք (-kʻ).
Usually connected with Ancient Greek αὐχήν (aukhḗn, “neck, throat; isthmus”) and ἄμφην (ámphēn, “neck”). The three words may go back to (deprecated template usage) [etyl] Proto-Indo-European *anǵʰw- or *angʷʰ-. Alternatively, per Martirosyan's tentative suggestion, they may be borrowed from a (deprecated template usage) [etyl] Lua error in Module:parameters at line 376: Parameter 1 should be a valid language or etymology language code; the value "qfa-sub" is not valid.
