Etymology

From the root ד־מ־ה (d-m-); compare Akkadian 𒁕𒄠𒌈 (/⁠damtu, dattu⁠/, the figure of a man), Aramaic דְּמוּתָא (d'muta).

Pronunciation

Usage notes

  • In addition to the plural form דמויות \ דְּמֻיּוֹת (d'muyót) given above, in Medieval Hebrew the forms דְּמוּתִים (d'mutím) and דְּמוּתוֹת (d'mutót) are attested as well.
