Mishnaic: possibly via Aramaic דפתרא / ܕܦܬܪܐ (dptrʾ, hide; account book), form Ancient Greek διφθέρα (diphthéra, prepared hide, piece of leather; anything made of leather). Compare with Arabic دَفْتَر (daftar, register; notebook)
