Hebrew[edit]
Etymology[edit]
From הָלַךְ (halách, “went”) + לְ־ (l'-, “to”) + עוֹלָמוֹ (olamó, “his world”); hence literally “went to his world”.
Verb[edit]
הָלַךְ לְעוֹלָמוֹ • (halách l'olamó) third-singular masculine past (pa'al construction)
- (He/it) died, passed away.
Conjugation[edit]
See conjugation at הָלַךְ (halách, “went”). The second word, לְעוֹלָמוֹ, ends with a suffix that varies according to the person spoken of. Thus, for example, הָלְכָה לְעוֹלָמָהּ (hal'cha l'olamáh, “(she/it) died”).
