- To refrain, avoid, abstain (from an action).
- Tanach, Numbers 22:16, with Young's Literal Translation:
- כֹּה אָמַר בָּלָק בֶּן־צִפּוֹר, אַל־נָא תִמָּנַע מֵהֲלֹךְ אֵלָי.
- ko amár baláq ben-tzippór, al-na timmanáʿ mehalóch eláy.
- Thus said Balak son of Zippor, Be not, I pray thee, withheld from coming unto me.
- Tanach, Job 38:15, with Young's Literal Translation:
- וְיִמָּנַע מֵרְשָׁעִים אוֹרָם; וּזְרוֹעַ רָמָה תִּשָּׁבֵר.
- vəyimmanáʿ merəša'ím orám; uzəroá' ramá tiššavér.
- And withheld from the wicked is their light, And the arm lifted up is broken.
