Yiddish[edit]

Etymology[edit]

From Russian or Ukrainian поля́к (polják).

Noun[edit]

פּאָליאַק (polyakm, plural פּאָליאַקן (polyakn), feminine פּאָליאַטשקע (polyatshke)

Usage notes[edit]

Yiddish rigorously distinguishes between Jews and non-Jews in national terminology. A Polish Jew is not a polyak, but rather a פּוילישער (poylisher).
