From English pyjama, probably via Polish piżama, Russian пижа́ма (pižáma), Ukrainian піжа́ма (pižáma), from Hindi पैजामा (paijāmā) / Urdu پائِجامَہ (pāijāma), from Classical Persian پایجامه (pāyjāma), archaic form of پاجامه (pājāma). Alternative form borrowed from Polish pidżama. Compare also German Pyjama m or n.
