Etymology[edit]

Coined by Academy of the Hebrew Language as a translation for English takeout based on Genesis 12:19, with translation of the Jewish Publication Society: וְעַתָּה הִנֵּה אִשְׁתְּךָ קַח וָלֵךְ׃ (v'atá hiné 'isht'khá kákh valékh., Now, here is your wife; take her and begone!)
