- a. 217 C.E., Mishnah. Bava Kamma, section 8.4:
- חֵרֵשׁ, שׁוֹטֶה וְקָטָן, פְּגִיעָתָן רָעָה. הַחוֹבֵל בָּהֶן חַיָּב, וְהֵם שֶׁחָבְלוּ בַּאֲחֵרִים פְּטוּרִין.
- ḥerésh, shoṭéh, v-qatán p'gia'tán ra'áh. ha-ḥovel ba-hén ḥayyáv, v-hem she-ḥavlú ba-aḥerím p'turín.
- A deaf-mute, an idiot, and a minor, any incident involving them is bad. If one injures them one is liable, but if they injure others they are exempt.
