Inherited from Old Punjabi ਆਖਣੁ (ākhaṇu), from Sauraseni Apabhramsa 𑆃𑆑𑇀𑆒𑆅, from Prakrit 𑀅𑀓𑁆𑀔𑀇 (akkhaï), 𑀅𑀓𑁆𑀔𑀸𑀇 (akkhāi), from Sanskrit आख्याति (ākhyāti).
