Etymology

From Middle Persian 𐭠𐭫𐭠𐭮𐭲𐭭𐭩 (ārāstan), from Old Persian [script needed] (â-râd-a, to ready), from Proto-Indo-European *rê-dh (to ready). Related to Old Armenian պատրաստ (patrast, prepared), an Iranian borrowing.
