Etymology[edit]
Borrowed from a Turkic language, derived from the root Proto-Turkic *apa, not to be confused with the term of Prakrit origin, perhaps a feminine derivative of, *𑀅𑀧𑁆𑀧 (*appa, “father”); see Hindi आपा (āpā).
