From the root و ك ء (w-k-ʔ); compare وَكَأَ (wakaʔa, to lean on).

Verb

اِتَّكَأَ (ittakaʔa) VIII, non-past يَتَّكِئُ‎ (yattakiʔu)

  1. to lean on, to recline, to lie at table [+ ‎عَلىَ‎ (object) = on]
    • 609–632 CE, Qur'an, 56:15-16:
      عَلَى سُرُرٍ مَّوْضُونَةٍ مُّتَّكِئِينَ عَلَيْهَا مُتَقَابِلِينَ
      ʕalā sururin mmawḍūnatin mmuttakiʔīna ʕalayhā mutaqābilīna
      (They will be) on ornamented thrones, reclining on them, facing each other.
