Calque of Old East Slavic оукраина (ukraina), analyzed as اور (or, “fence, wall”) + طشره (taşra, “outer, exterior”).

- Ukraine (a historical region in Eastern Europe, surrounding the modern country of Ukraine)
Usage notes[edit]
This was used for the region surrounding the modern country of the same name as it was used during the Ottoman era.
