Etymology[edit]

Inherited from Proto-Turkic *oglak (kid, yeanling), equivalent to اوغل (oğul, son) +‎ ـاق (-ak, noun and adjective diminutive suffix); cognate with Kazakh лақ (laq), Kyrgyz улак (ulak), Kumyk улакъ (ulaq), Southern Altai улак (ulak), Uyghur ئوغلاق (oghlaq) and Uzbek uloq.
