Inherited from Proto-Turkic *ȫkür- (to belch; to nauseate); cognate with Azerbaijani öyümək, Chuvash ӳхӗр (üh̬ĕr), Karakhanid اُقٖيماقْ (oqï:ma:q), Kazakh өкіру (ökıru), Kyrgyz өкүрүү (ökürüü), Turkmen ȫgemek, Uzbek o‘kirmoq and Yakut өҕүй (öğüy)
