Bulgar

[edit]

Etymology

[edit]

Used instead of بَلُو (belüv, monument) on only one occasion. Considering that this word violates phonological and phonotactic rules of the native Bulgar words, it is a loanword from a Kipchak or a Khwarezmian language, ultimately from Proto-Turkic *biti-g.

Cognate with Chuvash пӗтӳ (pĕt̬ü, amulet), Old Turkic 𐰋𐰃𐱅𐰏 (b²it²g, inscription).

Noun

[edit]

بطك (bitig)

  1. epitaph, inscription
