Etymology

Borrowed from Persian جومرد (jumard), shortening of جوانمرد (javân-mard, brave, generous). Compare other Turkic languages, such as Bashkir йомарт (yomart), Kazakh жомарт (jomart), Tatar юмарт (yumart), Turkmen jomart and Uzbek jumard.
