Inherited from Proto-Turkic *taya- (to prop up); cognate with Azerbaijani dayamaq, Bashkir таяү (tayaw), Karakhanid تياماق (tayāmāq), Southern Altai тайаар (tayaar), Uzbek tayamoq and Yakut тайаа (tayaa).
