From Arabic قُرُوشْ (qurūš), plural of قِرْشْ (qirš), from Ottoman Turkish قروش, from German Groschen, from Medieval Latin (denarius) grossus (thick (penny)). Cognate with Chadian Arabic قرس (gurus, money).
