Etymology[edit]

Borrowed from Persian قیمه(qime, ground meat, mincemeat), likely ultimately from Turkic. Compare Ottoman Turkish قیمه(kıyma) (whence modern Turkish kıyma (minced meat)), Punjabi ਕ਼ੀਮਾ (qīmā) / قِیمہ(qīma), Gujarati ખીમો (khīmo), Marathi खिमा (khimā), Bengali কিমা (kima).
