Usage notes

For the meaning “pound”, لَيْرَة (layra) refers only to the Lebanese pound and the Syrian pound. Most currencies called “pound” in English, including the pound sterling and the Egyptian pound, are known as جُنَيْه (junayh) in Arabic.
