1. to speak poorly of, to satirize, to dispraise or revile with words, to lampoon

   • وَكَمْ عَلَّمْتُهُ نَظْمَ الْقَوَافِي / فَلَمَّا قَالَ قَافِيَةً هَجَانِي

     wakam ʕallamtuhū naẓma l-qawāfī / falammā qāla qāfiyatan hajānī

     And how much have I taught him the organisation of rhymes / and when he spoke his rhyme, he dispraised me.

2. to pronounce or speak of something's various traits or flaws
3. to pronounce syllables, to spell out, to annunciate or make plain the various sounds of a word
