Borrowed from Aramaic וַרְשָׁאנָא / ܘܱܪܫܳܢܳܐ (waršānā, wood pigeon), from Akkadian 𒆜𒄷 (KASKALMUŠEN /⁠uršānu⁠/, a kind of pigeon), itself borrowed from Sumerian 𒆜𒄷 (KASKALMUŠEN /⁠irsaĝ⁠/, pigeon).
