[edit]Etymology
[edit]From Akkadian 𒆜𒄷 (KASKALMUŠEN /uršānu/, “a kind of pigeon”), itself borrowed from Sumerian 𒆜𒄷 (KASKALMUŠEN /irsaĝ/, “pigeon”). Compare Jewish Babylonian Aramaic וַרְשָׁאנָא (waršānā), אוּרְשָׁנָא (uršānā), and Arabic وَرَشان (warašān).
