Etymology[edit]

From the root ب ز م (b-z-m). Compare بَزِيم (bazīm, a shoot of a plant or frond used to bind vegetable bundles and the bundle itself), syn. بَزُوم (bazūm), and إِبْزِيم (ʔibzīm), إِبْزَام (ʔibzām, the clasp of a belt or shoe), بَزَمَ (bazama, to bite with the front teeth; to take with two fingers).
