Denominal verb from ܗܲܩܝܲܬ (haqyat, recital; narrative; story), from Persian حکایت (hekâyat), from Arabic حِكَايَة (ḥikāya). Doublet of ܡܲܚܟܹܐ (maḥkē, to speak).
