From Aramaic פּתִיחָא (pṯīḥā), equivalent to the passive participle of ܦܵܬ݂ܹܚ (pāṯēḥ, to open); compare Arabic مَفْتُوح (maftūḥ) and Hebrew פָּתוּחַ (patúakh).
