From Sanskrit प्रस्थान (prasthāna, setting out, departure; walking, journey; source, cause) + ނީ (). Cognate to Sinhalese පටන් (paṭan, to begin from, since). Doublet of ފަށައިގެން (faṣaigen̊) and ފަށަން (faṣan̊)
