Inherited from Sanskrit अङ्गिका (aṅgikā), which appears to be from अङ्ग (aṅga, limb) +‎ -इका (-ikā), referring to "that which covers the limbs". Cognate with Gujarati અંગિયો (aṅgiyo) and Marwari अंगिया (aṅgiyā).
