Etymology
[edit]Compound of अन्य (anya, “other, someone else”) + वाप (vāpa, “sowing seeds; one who sows seeds”). Literally supposed to mean "One who sows its seeds [eggs] for others", referring to the cuckoo's habit of laying its eggs in other birds' nests.
