Inherited from Ashokan Prakrit *𑀅𑀮𑁆𑀮𑀟 (*allaḍa).[1] Cognate with Gujarati અલ્હડ (alhaḍ), Punjabi ਅੱਲ੍ਹੜ (allhaṛ).
