Inherited from Proto-Indo-Iranian *(H)íšuš (arrow), from Proto-Indo-European *(H)ísus (arrow). Cognate with Avestan 𐬌𐬱𐬎 (išu, arrow), Ancient Greek ἰός (iós, arrow).
