Inherited from Sauraseni Prakrit 𑀉𑀤𑁆𑀥𑀸𑀭 (uddhāra), from Sanskrit उद्धार (uddhāra, “act of raising”). Compare Bhojpuri उधार (udhār), Marathi उधार (udhār).
