Etymology[edit]
From Proto-Indo-Aryan *Háwṣati, from Proto-Indo-Iranian *Háwšati, from Proto-Indo-European *h₁éws-e-ti, from *h₁ews- (“to burn”). Cognate with Ancient Greek εὕω (heúō), Latin ūrō.
