[edit]Inherited from Sauraseni Prakrit 𑀅𑀯𑀭 (avara), from Sanskrit अपर (ápara, “other, different”). Doublet of अपर (apar) and false cognate of West Frisian oar, which is instead cognate with अंतर (antar).
