Inherited from Sauraseni Prakrit 𑀓𑀮𑀲 (kalasa) + Middle Indo-Aryan -𑀓- (-ka-), from Sanskrit कलश (kalaśa). Compare Konkani कळसो (kaḷso), Gujarati કળશ (kaḷśa), કળશો (kaḷśo), Marathi कळस (kaḷas), Odia କଳସ (kôḷôsô), Bengali কলস (koloś), Assamese কলহ (koloh).
