From Persian گرم (garm, "hot") and Persian مصالح (masâlih, “affairs, materials, spices”), plural of مصلحت (maslahat, “affair, policy, best thing to do”), from Arabic, derived from صَلَحَ (ṣalaḥa, “be fit, competent, usable”).
