[edit]Inherited from Sauraseni Prakrit *𑀘𑀺𑀟𑀺𑀕𑀸 (*ciḍigā), a feminine form from 𑀘𑀺𑀟𑀺𑀕 (ciḍiga), from Sanskrit *चिटिक (ciṭika), चटक (caṭaka, “sparrow”).[1] Cognate with Bengali চড়ুই (coṛui), Assamese চৰাই (sorai).
