Etymology[edit]

Inherited from Ashokan Prakrit *𑀘𑁄𑀝𑁆𑀝 (*coṭṭa), ultimately from Sanskrit चुट् (cuṭ, to cut).[1] Cognate to Punjabi ਚੋਟ (coṭ), Nepali चोट (coṭ), Bengali চোট (cōṭ), Assamese চোট (süt).
