Etymology
[edit]From Proto-Indo-Iranian *ȷ́nu, from Proto-Indo-European *ǵnu, zero-grade of *ǵónu (“knee”). Cognate with Avestan 𐬲𐬥𐬎 (žnu, “knee”); see जानु (jānu) for more cognates.
