[edit]Inherited from Middle Hindi دھند (dhnd /dhund/) (c. 1562),[1] from Sanskrit *धूमान्ध (*dhūmāndha), from धूम (dhūmá, “smoke, haze”) + अन्ध (andhá, “blind”) (compare धूमाक्ष (dhūmākṣá)).[2]
