Etymology

Borrowed from Classical Persian نبی (nabī), from Arabic نَبِيّ (nabiyy), from Aramaic נְבִיָּא (n'ḇiyyā) (absolutive form: נְבִי (n'ḇī)), the root of which is cognate to the Arabic root ن ب ء (n b ʔ). Compare Hebrew נָבִיא (nāḇīʔ).
