Inherited from Sauraseni Apabhramsa णाइं, नाइं, from Sauraseni Prakrit 𑀡𑀸𑀇 (ṇāi, knowledge), from Sanskrit *ज्ञाति (jñāti), from ज्ञा (jñā, to know) +‎ -ति (-ti).[1][2]
