Etymology

    From Proto-Indo-Aryan *ȷ́naH-, from Proto-Indo-Iranian *ǰnaH-, from Proto-Indo-European *ǵneh₃- (to know). Cognate with Latin gnōscō, Ancient Greek γιγνώσκω (gignṓskō), Old English cnawan (English know), and Russian знать (znatʹ).[1]
