Inherited from Sauraseni Prakrit [Term?], from Sanskrit बिदालिका (bidālikā), a diminutive form of Sanskrit बिडाल (biḍāla, cat; eyeball), from Dravidian.

Compare Proto-Dravidian *pillV, Tamil பில்லி (pilli). Cognate with Punjabi بِلَّا / ਬਿੱਲਾ (billā).
