वेल्ला
Appearance
Hindi
[edit]Etymology
[edit]Borrowed from Punjabi ਵਿਹਲਾ (vihlā) / ویہلا (vehlā), from Sanskrit वेल्य (vēlya, “time”). The spelling in Hindi reflects phonetic gemination following stressed syllables in Punjabi. Some urban legends suggest a relation to Tamil வேலை (vēlai, “job, labour”). Doublet of वेला (velā).
