Inherited from Sauraseni Prakrit 𑀲𑀲𑁆𑀲𑀽 (sassū), from Sanskrit श्वश्रू (śvaśrū́),[1] from Proto-Indo-Iranian *swaćrúH, from Proto-Indo-European *sweḱrúh₂ (“mother-in-law”).
