Etymology[edit]

From Sanskrit দন্ত (dánta), from Proto-Indo-Iranian *Hdánts (compare Persian دندان(dandân)), ultimately from Proto-Indo-European *h₃dónts (compare Lithuanian dantis, Greek δόντι (dónti) French dent, Welsh dant, English tooth).
